A holiday that is always with you

By this it is customary to understand the city of Paris and its turbulent cultural life, described in the novel of the same name. But few people know that the famous writer often visited Spain for the San Fermin holiday, connected his life with the anti-fascist struggle of the Spanish people and called him his favorite.

In just 3 minutes you need to escape from the bulls right through the streets of the city. This is done by volunteers, many people are watching from balconies and roadsides. And then, with relief, they go to drink wine, a lot of wine, and also taste local types of tapas. The fiesta runs for a week from July 7 to July 14, you can also watch bullfighting, watch a parade of giant dolls and fireworks. The holiday is dedicated to Saint Fermin, a bishop who lived in the XIII century and saved Pamplona from the plague epidemic.

Ernest Hemingway first attended the San Fermin bull run in 1923, arriving from Paris with his wife, and was fascinated by what was happening. He even conceived the idea of writing a non-fiction book about bullfighting. A year later, he returned to Pamplona again, and a year later, during the writer's third visit to the fiesta, events occurred between him and his companions, which he described in the novel "And the Sun Also Rises" (The Sun Also Rises), where running with bulls and heated matadors are an integral part of the atmosphere and action. This novel has been reprinted continuously since its publication on October 22, 1926 and is one of the author's most popular works.

In '61, he sent a telegram to Pamplona with a request to book his usual place for bullfighting. The day before the flight, Hemingway was gone and his funeral service was held on the morning when San Fermin began, the same fiesta, his eternal holiday.
