Easter in Spain

In April, spring is already in full swing in Spain, and no less important Catholic holidays than Christmas are held. In 2022, Good Friday falls on April 15, and Easter on the 17th. Semana Santa is holy, that is, Easter week, and Pascua is Easter. In Spain, there are no Easter eggs, cakes, bunnies and other familiar attributes at all. Here, this holiday primarily consists of religious processions. They are different in different autonomous communities of the country. They are conducted by various religious fraternities. People in white robes carry large wooden platforms "tronos", and on them huge statues of Christ, the Virgin Mary, Pontius Pilate and other characters of the Passion of Christ, and sometimes whole scenes, like the Last Supper and others. Of course, all this is accompanied by rich decor, music, and the triumph of the crowd. Following the members of the brotherhood are women with candles in their hands. And, of course, the orchestra. Sometimes in processions there are whole choirs performing on the move. The most impressive processions can be seen in Seville, Malaga, Salamanca and other cities. Tourists and locals gather to watch the Easter parades. Carnival has just ended, but why stop?

Of course, there are also their own Spanish Easter sweets. Torrijas is a sweet toast. White bread is soaked in milk, fried, sprinkled with sugar or dipped in honey. There are also pestines - sweet pancakes with orange filling. And most importantly, an Easter bagel instead of a cake, of course, is also sweet, called monas de pasqua. Easter eggs are still present – they are hiding under the layers of dough of this pie.
