Biofuel from olives

The Spaniards conducted a study that shows that olive seeds provide the highest calorific value of any comparable fuel source and the least impact on the environment.

The conclusions of the consultants from Jaen show that such fuel is "environmentally friendly, has a high calorific value (4,500 calories per gram) and is very economical (savings of up to 70 percent compared to gasoline or diesel fuel)." On average, about six million tons of olives are produced in Spain per season, and about 15% of this mass (900,000 tons) are bones.

Currently, about 450,000 tons of olive seeds are received annually by olive processing enterprises and oil producers, of which 323,500 tons are sold, mainly for use as biofuels in the agricultural sector. One of the main conclusions of the study is that if this resource were used better, the agri-food sector of Andalusia could become self-sufficient in energy terms, since the production of olive seeds in each season provides enough electricity to meet the annual needs of the entire sector. In addition to reducing costs and creating new sources of income, this would also bring huge environmental benefits.
