Spanish Nation Day

One of the most important holidays in Spain is celebrated on October 12, when the olive harvest begins in Spain and the weather is still very warm almost everywhere in the country.

On October 12, 1492, after a long and exhausting journey, Christopher Columbus finally saw the land – it was the coast of the American continent. This day is considered the beginning of the spread of Spanish statehood, as well as the Spanish language and culture in the New World. The Spaniards call this holiday Día de la Hispanidad, that is, the communities of all Spanish-speaking countries.

After the discovery of America, the Spaniards were able to expand their borders far beyond the ocean. The Spanish people began to develop new lands. But in order for the Spaniards, regardless of their place of residence, to preserve the spirit and integrity of the nation, much later, at the beginning of the XX century, the holiday of the Spanish race Hispanidad was designated. Now Hispanidad is celebrated by 23 countries of Latin America, Africa and the Pacific basin. In the United States, this holiday is not officially recognized, but the entire Spanish-speaking population celebrates it (there are more than 40 million Spanish-speaking immigrants in the United States). In Spain itself, this day is celebrated with a parade in the capital, where the entire royal family is present, and of course with delicious treats in every house.
